pretty. disappointing.

despite the fact that they attempted some form of assurance:
oh how it’s been so long
we’re so sorry we’ve been gone
we were busy writing song for you
you don’t have to worry ‘cos we’re still the same band

i found myself listening with growing unease. already dropping the ! from their name killed a small part of my psyche. now, listening to the tracks off the new album (yeah a whole 24 hours before the concert, bitches) i thought “oh god, how… mellow…”

hell, even the track titles aren’t as happening. don’t downgrade me from “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage” and “There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet” or my favourite yet “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” (yes, i know it’s a coupland title. it’s also what i named my tabulas blog).

now we have such inane stuff – “Nine in the Afternoon” and “When the Day Met the Night”. titles that i might have written in a fit of adolescent despair. where are the compelling, intelligent, palahniuk-inspired songs? and what’s up with ross’ new obsession with the word “moon” found in at least 3 songs?

and i’m still most shaken up that kellie passed up the chance to try snog brendon urie at the mtv asia awards.
