beetroots bloody best
Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008jt introduced me to the bloody beetroots some time in the past two weeks, and i’ve been bouncing up and down to it since yesterday when i casually IM’ed hatim “oooooh bloody beetroots” and he immediately tagged me as his elektroclash kaki or something like that and stopped giving me airy fairy indie pop-masquerading-as-rock, though deerhoof was a nice touch.
sigh, no one else quite does elektro like the europeans.
so hatim was in supposed dj mode yesterday, and i can diss him without fear because he refuses to read “blogs” (said sneeringly) nowadays anyway, and he started on an mp3-on-msn sending spree.
this is his lapsap-inspired list.
bonde do role - gasolina
don rimini - let me back up (crookers tetsujin mix)
MSTRKRFT - VUVUVU
federico franchi - cream
jesse mccartney - leavin’ (MSTRKRFT remix)
robin s vs steve angello & laidback luke - shoe me love vs be (hardwell bootleg)
shinichi osawa - star guitar
timbaland - miscommunication (the bloody beetroots remix)
digitalism - pogo (shinichi osawa remix)
shitdisco - 72 virgins (the blood beetroots remix)
MGMT - kids (soulwax remix)
hot chip - ready for the floor
nice nice. my only fear is that from outside my car, all the hard bass beats will sound like fengtau. coupled with my orange hair, i’m going to be so lalamui. current favourite? the bloody beetroots - dimmakmmunication.
less mouse-chasing, more languid stretching
Thursday, November 13th, 2008this is my current favourite song - Private Life of a Cat by The LK (The Love of Kevin, Chaos, Colour and the Sound of K). it hooked me the second i heard it. really lovely stuff. it reminds me very much of The Postal Service.
free and hopefully legal (i haven’t checked) downloads here.
one man ac/dc cover band
Thursday, September 25th, 2008watch me and tell me this isn’t just too awesome. one man ac/dc cover band who sounds like jack white.
feist on sesame street
Thursday, August 21st, 2008pretty. disappointing.
Monday, August 4th, 2008
despite the fact that they attempted some form of assurance:
oh how it’s been so long
we’re so sorry we’ve been gone
we were busy writing song for you
you don’t have to worry ‘cos we’re still the same band
i found myself listening with growing unease. already dropping the ! from their name killed a small part of my psyche. now, listening to the tracks off the new album (yeah a whole 24 hours before the concert, bitches) i thought “oh god, how… mellow…”
hell, even the track titles aren’t as happening. don’t downgrade me from “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage” and “There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet” or my favourite yet “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” (yes, i know it’s a coupland title. it’s also what i named my tabulas blog).
now we have such inane stuff - “Nine in the Afternoon” and “When the Day Met the Night”. titles that i might have written in a fit of adolescent despair. where are the compelling, intelligent, palahniuk-inspired songs? and what’s up with ross’ new obsession with the word “moon” found in at least 3 songs?
and i’m still most shaken up that kellie passed up the chance to try snog brendon urie at the mtv asia awards.
panic at the ticket booth
Monday, July 28th, 2008
so panic at the disco is coming to town. like soon. adriana contacted me on facebook because of my fanboy status which is of course, dedicated to colin, fuse. who went from “not too keen” on them to “i don’t like them” to “actually, i hate them” in less than a minute’s time.
but why, colin, why?
being my leechy little self, am bugging bryan to get free tickets. initially forgot about him and his long warner arm, and planned to go for the RM68 (pre 2nd august) free-standing tickets. thankfully kellie accidentally reminded me. “you got free tix, babe?” hmmm… not yet.
*crosses fingers*
haven’t been to a proper concert in yonks. in fact, the one and only proper stadium merdeka gig i went for was alanis morissette way back when. the only thing that came close was nofx last year. well, it was probably better thanks to the glorious moshpit.
i need to see urie in his rouge and top hat. i want to be totally sloshed trying to sing the words to “build god, then we’ll talk” and “time to dance”!
